Abstract

In a short period of time, medias have talked about MOOCs with high expectations, followed by great disappointments. Such a reversal of the trend is typical of technological determinism, which is a prominent approach of educational technologies. Against this background, the objective of this paper is to analyze general media discourses about MOOCs in a critical perspective. We used a content analysis method to characterize discourses of press articles and to assess the extent to which they convey a technological determinist view. We finally draw some concluding remarks about the way education technologies are socially perceived.
